School Facilities

The High School is comprised of two main purpose-built buildings and nine portable classrooms within close proximity to the main buildings. Academic classes are located in a twelve classroom building and in the Science Center. To the extent that it is possible, curriculum areas are grouped in close proximity to one another.

Fine Arts Electives (art classes, photography) share a separate facility. Science classes are housed in the “Science Block," a group of three fully outfitted classroom/labs sharing a storage facility and have additional classrooms for lecture.

Physical Education classes are carried out in various stations throughout the campus, dependent upon the specific activity the class is involved in. These facilities include a soccer field, softball field (doubling as a cricket pitch), indoor gymnasium, and an outdoor shaded area that is the same size as a gymnasium. Additionally, the PE classes now have the use of a newly constructed, fully-air-conditioned gymnasium, which can facilitate numerous classes at one time.

Instrumental band and chorus classes are conducted in a newly renovated Music Center.

There are two computer labs located in the High School. One is a teaching lab, equipped with 22 student PCs and multimedia projectors and e-whiteboards. The other lab is an "Open Lab" in which students are able to work individually during Study Hall, lunch, or any other free time. The Open Lab is equipped with 24 PCs. Each lab has a LaserJet printer and a flatbed scanner. The school’s computers in every classroom - are connected to the DHS's local network as well as to the Internet. Personal Digital Assistants and notebook computers utilize WI-FI and Bluetooth technology to access the Internet wirelessly throughout the DHS campus.

The newly constructed Cafetia provides DHS with a state-of-the-art theatre in which to conduct dramatic and musical performances. It is complemented by the Academy Theatre available for assemblies and smaller productions. During the day, the Cafeteria serves as an air-conditioned cafeteria to all students on campus.

The entire campus, which encompasses an Elementary/Middle School (Nursery – GR 8), British School (Reception - Year 10), Central Offices and Support Services as well as the High School Buildings covers 40 acres.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

Food

Students may elect to bring their lunch from home or purchase hot or cold lunch and snacks provided by Al-Gosaibi Catering Company. There is also a commercial outlet Joffrey's Coffee Shop where students may buy food, drinks and ice cream during lunch. Students assemble for lunch during a common period in the Cafeteria, and after eating, may choose to sit outside or in the newly constructed DHS Dome, serving as a Student Union.

Health

To insure the health of our multinational population, students are required to comply with a stringent immunization policy standard to most United States high schools. Health services are provided to the school by full time registered nurses who are shared by all three schools on the campus. Annual hearing and vision testing is completed at the beginning of each school year and parents are informed of any results. The school nurses are housed in a separate facility which includes offices, a sick-child room with cots, a small classroom for instructional purposes (campus-wide First Aide and CPR classes for faculty and staff) and lavatories.

Guidance

The High School has three Guidance Counselors, whose main functions are to promote the personal, social, and educational growth of all students. DHS counselors work with students to find solutions to the many challenges they encounter in their journey through adolescence. Information shared with the counselor is treated in a confidential manner.

College Placement Office

The Guidance Office houses College Placement services staffed with a full-time Secretary. The office is involved in assisting High School students in college placement. The school guides all students and families in the necessary preparations for researching and applying to the schools of their choice. Representatives from various schools throughout the world are regular visitors and offer presentations to parents and students as an overview of their prospective schools.

Remedial

The school offers no remedial or specialized programs. By Board policy, the schools within the International Schools Group - Dhahran District do not accept students who require specialized learning programs.
