DHS STUDENT DRESS CODE 2011-2012

The DHS Dress Code is designed to ensure respect for our diverse cultural community, to create an environment free of distractions to learning, and to reflect our status as a high-standard academic school.

    General:

      • The Dress Code applies on every school day unless specific alternatives are announced by administration.
      • Students must arrive to school and depart school in dress code.  PE clothes are not to be worn at the Gate or Parking Lot either before or after school.
      • Clothing cannot be frayed, ripped or torn.
      • Clothing cannot contain offensive or inappropriate logos (alcohol, tobacco, sex, etc).

    Tops:

      • Students must wear polo shirts, short or long sleeved, with a collar and two to three buttons, fastened to ensure modesty.
      • Polo shirts can be any color and can include stripes and logos but not large prints.
      • Shirts must have sleeves of a minimum of 7 cm in length
      • In cold weather, students may wear a sweater or jacket on top of a polo shirt that adheres to the above limits, but not instead of a polo shirt.
      • Like polo shirts, sweaters may include a logo but cannot feature large prints.

    Bottoms:

      • Students may wear:
        • tailored pants or shorts that are in any solid color (plaid, striped, or checkered patterns are not allowed);
        • skirts (not required to be a solid color).
      • Pants and shorts must include belt loops (athletic shorts or pants only permitted in PE classes & athletic activities).
      • Pants and shorts must be worn at the waist and must be neither too baggy nor too tight.
      • Shorts and skirts cannot be shorter than 7 cm above the knee.
      • Students wearing stockings, leggings or tights must also wear a skirt that adheres to the above length limits.

DHS Administration will be the final arbiter on Dress Code (along with input from female staff for female clothing questions).
