Basic International Baccalaureate Information

 

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) is a 2-year Grade 11 & 12 rigorous curriculum that utilizes internally and externally moderated assessments. With successful completion of all components students can earn a highly regarding IB Diploma.

IB Programme Structure:

     

     

     

IB Diplomas:

Diplomas are awarded to those students that earn a minimum of 24 points (out of a total of 45) on the 6 group exams AND successful completion of the CAS, EE and TOK requirements.

 

  • Creativity, Action, Service (CAS):  CAS requires a consistent commitment to improvement and reflection on community service at local and international levels, one’s physical fitness and creative pursuits and needs a minimum of 3-4 hours per week.

 

  • Extended Essay (EE):  The extended essay is an in-depth study of a focused topic chosen from the list of approved DP subjects.  It is intended to promote high-level research and writing skills, intellectual discovery and creativity.  Maximum length is 4,000 words.

 

  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK):  Theory of Knowledge examines ways of knowing such as perception, language, reason and emotion and situates them in the student’s wider world and areas of knowledge such as math, arts, ethics, history and sciences.  It encourages appreciation of alternative viewpoints while fostering an ability to make sound and wise judgments.
