Dhahran High School History

Dhahran High School, one of seven schools in the International Schools Group District, is an American-curriculum international school committed to providing outstanding educational opportunities to its expatriate community, which includes the dependence of employees at numerous companies such as Saudi ARAMCO, Saudi Telecom, Raytheon, Schlumberger, Halliburton and the University of Petroleum and Minerals. The District is a not-for-profit institution licensed by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Education, and directed by a Board of Trustees comprised of representatives from each of the school's major constituents.

Dhahran Academy opened its doors in February 1962. Its original mission was to serve the educational needs of the U.S. Consulate's dependents, and was, in fact, initially called "Consular Academy." The school grew to serve the broader expatriate community in Dhahran, and in time became known as Dhahran Academy, expanding its program to grade nine in 1975, and opening its first Kindergarten in 1976. Because of its growth during this time, the school split into an elementary school and a junior high school in August 1977. In 1980, Dhahran Academy was accredited by Middle States Association of College and Schools.

In 1998, Dhahran Academy's Board of Trustees committed to the establishment of an American curriculum four-year high school program, adding grades 10 and 11 the following year. In October 1999, the new Dhahran Academy High School, while sharing a campus, staff, and administrative team with the junior high, sought accreditation status for grades 10 and 11 through Middle States Accreditation of Colleges and Schools. In the summer of 2000, Dhahran Academy High School successfully secured that accreditation. The current report represents the addition of our first senior class and our pursuit of accreditation for Grade Twelve. In November 2000, Dhahran Academy High School, a completely separate school on the Dhahran campus, successfully sought accreditation status for grade 12 through Middle States Accreditation of Colleges and Schools. Dhahran Academy High School was renamed Dhahran High School in 2002.
